Our Philosophy

At the urging of his family and the Board, in December 2003, our founder, William H. Hurt wrote this ‘Letter to the WHH Foundation Board’ (read the full letter below) known in foundation-speak as a “Donor Letter of Intent.” We were aware that many foundations have been started by very well meaning people whose original intent has been lost over the generations.

How fortunate we are that WHH took the time to write his letter.  Read this and you will get an insight into WHH’s philosophy of life, a wonderful exposition of the insight of our ‘fearless founder’. In it he has created a road map for future generations to follow as they enjoy the privilege and the opportunity to be the guardians of his legacy. You will see that there are no hard and fast rules, just thoughtful guideposts and suggestions. Mainly, we are encouraged to follow our own path in striving to make the world a little better.

A generous act indeed.
